حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ الْقَرْقَسَانِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ التِّنِّيسِيُّ قَالَا ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ شَدَّادُ قَالَ: قَالَ وَاثِلَةُ بْنُ الْأَسْقَعِ اللَّيْثِيُّ: كُنْتُ أُرِيدُ عَلِيًّا فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ، فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ: انْطَلَقْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْعُوهُ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ فَدَخَلَا فَدَخَلْتُ مَعَهُمَا فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَسَنًا وَحُسَيْنًا، فَأَجْلَسَ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا عَلَى فَخِذِهِ وَأَدْنَى فَاطِمَةَ مِنْ حِجْرِهِ، ثُمَّ لَفَّ عَلَيْهِمَا ثَوْبَهُ، وَأَنَا مُسْنِدٌ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا} [الأحزاب: ٣٣] ثُمَّ قَالَ: «هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلِي هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلِي أَحَقُّ» قَالَ وَاثِلَةُ: قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَأَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِكَ؟ قَالَ: «وَأَنْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِي» قَالَ وَاثِلَةُ: وَإِنَّهُ لَمِنْ أَرْجَى مَا أَرْجُوهُ "
Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I wanted to meet Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) but did not find him. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "He has gone to call the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); (wait) until he comes." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and he (Ali) was with him. The two of them went in, and I went in with them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called al-Hasan and al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) and seated each of them on one of his thighs, and drew Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) close to his lap, then wrapped his garment around them both, while I was sitting (nearby) reclining. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you thoroughly" [Surah al-Ahzab: 33]. Then he said: "These are my family, these are my family; they have the greater right." Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, am I also of your family?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And you are also of my family." Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: This is among the things I have the greatest hope in.
