It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to myself: I will surely memorise the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) began the prayer, he said the takbir and raised his hands until they were level with his (peace and blessings be upon him) ears, then took hold of his left hand with his right hand. When he said the takbir for bowing, he raised his hands too, just as he had raised them for the opening takbir of the prayer. When he bowed, he placed his palms on his knees. When he raised his head from bowing, he raised his hands too. When he sat for the tashahhud, he spread his left foot on the ground, then sat on it, placed his left palm on his left thigh and his right elbow on his right thigh, then closed his fingers, made a ring with the thumb and the middle finger, then began to supplicate with the other finger."
