Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 1827 — I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، ثنا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ فُرَاتٍ الْقَزَّازِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكُنَّا إِذَا سَلَّمْنَا أَشَرْنَا بِأَيْدِينَا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «مَا شَأْنُكُمْ تُشِيرُونَ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمُسٍ، إِذَا سَلَّمَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَلْتَفِتْ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ وَلَا يُومِئْ بِيَدِهِ»
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when we gave the salam we would gesture with our hands, saying: As-salamu alaykum. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at us and said: "What is the matter with you, that you gesture with your hands like the tails of unruly horses? When one of you gives the salam, let him turn towards his companions and not gesture with his hand."
