حَدَّثَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَلَطِيُّ، ثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْأَبَّارُ، ثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، قَالُوا , ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِيَادِ بْنِ لَقِيطٍ، عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ سَرْحَانَ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكَلَ طَعَامًا فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ وَقَدْ كَانَ تَوَضَّأَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَانْتَهَرَنِي , فَسَاءَنِي ذَلِكَ وَاللهِ فَشَكَوْتُ إِلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ , إِنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ قَدْ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ انْتِهَارُكَ إِيَّاهُ وَخَشِيَ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي نَفْسِكَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَيْسَ فِي نَفْسِي عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا خَيْرٌ , وَلَكِنَّهُ أَتَانِي بِمَاءٍ لِأَتَوَضَّأَ , وَإِنَّمَا أَكَلْتُ طَعَامًا , وَلَوْ فَعَلْتُ فَعَلَ النَّاسُ بَعْدِي»
Suwayd bin Sarhan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ate some food, then the prayer was called (iqamah) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, although he (peace and blessings be upon him) had already performed ablution before that. I brought him (peace and blessings be upon him) water for ablution, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked me. By Allah! That upset me, so I complained about it to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Your rebuke has weighed heavily on Mughirah bin Shu'bah, and he fears that there may be something in your heart against him." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is nothing in my heart regarding him except good; but he brought me water for ablution when I had only eaten food, and had I done so, people after me would have done the same."
