Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were on a journey, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Do you have any water?" I said: "Yes." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from his mount, then walked on until he disappeared from me. When he came back, I met him with the vessel for ablution. He (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution: he washed his hands and washed his face. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a Syrian cloak with tight sleeves, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought his hand out from beneath the cloak, washed his forearms and wiped his head. Then I reached down to remove his leather socks, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave them, for I put them on in a state of purity." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over the leather socks.
