حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ثنا مُنِيبُ بْنُ مُدْرِكِ بْنِ مُنِيبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ لِلنَّاسِ: " قُولُوا: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ تُفْلِحُوا "، فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ تَفَلَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ حَثَا عَلَيْهِ التُّرَابَ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ سَبَّهُ، حَتَّى انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ، فَأَقْبَلَتْ جَارِيَةٌ بِعُسٍّ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ أَوْ يَدَيْهِ وَقَالَ: «يَا بُنَيَّةُ، لَا تَخْشَى عَلَى أَبِيكِ عَيْلَةً وَلَا ذِلَّةً» فَقُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذِهِ؟ قَالُوا: زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهِيَ جَارِيَةٌ وَضِيئَةٌ
Sayyiduna Munib al-Azdi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the time of Jahiliyyah, saying to the people: "Say: There is no true god except Allah, and you will be successful." Some of them spat in his (peace and blessings be upon him) face, some threw dust upon him, and some reviled him, until half of the day had passed. Then a girl came with a vessel of water, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his face - or his hands - and said: "O my daughter! Fear neither poverty nor humiliation for your father." I asked: Who is she? The people said: She is Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and she was a beautiful girl.
