حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ نُصَيْرٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ أَبِي شَبِيبٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ يُثْنِي عَلَى عَامَلِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ عِنْدَ الْمِقْدَادِ، فَحَثَا الْمِقْدَادُ فِي وَجْهِهِ التُّرَابَ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْمَدَّاحِينَ فَاحْثُوا فِي وُجُوهِهِمُ التُّرَابَ»
Maymun bin Abi Shabib said: A man came to Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) praising one of the governors of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) threw dust in his face and said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see the flatterers, throw dust in their faces."
