Isma'il al-Awdi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I was in the house of Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) in Basrah, and his daughter told me that when her father's condition became grave, news of that reached Ziyad. He came until he sought permission at the door. (She said:) I was sitting beside my father when Ziyad entered, and he recognized the signs of death on my father's face. He said: O Ma'qil! Will you not give us some provision from you? Allah Almighty has been benefiting us through the things we hear from you. So he said to him: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There is no ruler over a people, whether they are many or few, who does not act justly among them, except that Allah Almighty will throw him on his face into the Fire." He lowered his head for a while, then remained silent with his head bowed, then raised his head and said: O Ma'qil! Is this something you heard yourself from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or through someone else? He said: Rather, I heard it myself from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
