حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَذْكُرُ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ إِنَّهُ لَيَعْرِضُ فِي صَدْرِي الشَّيْءُ لِأَنْ أَكُونَ حُمَمَةً أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ أَيِسَ مِنْ أَنْ يُعْبَدَ بِأَرْضِي هَذِهِ، وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدْ رَضِيَ بِالْمُحَقَّرَاتِ مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ»
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "By the One Who sent you with the truth, something occurs in my heart such that I would rather become a piece of charcoal (burnt to ashes) than speak of it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All praise is for Allah! Indeed, the devil has despaired of being worshipped in this land of mine, but he is content with those deeds of yours which (you) consider insignificant."
