حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ رِشْدِينَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنِ الْبَلَوِيِّ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَوْ كَانَ ثَابِتًا عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ رِقٌّ كَانَ الْيَوْمَ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِسَارٌ أَوْ فِدَاءٌ»
Al-Balawi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If slavery were established upon anyone of the Arabs, it would be so today; it is only captivity or ransom."
