Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) attended the wedding ceremony of one of his Companions, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "With goodness and blessing, affection, an auspicious omen, and abundance of provision; may Allah bless it for you. Beat the daff over his head." So a daff was brought and beaten. Then platters came bearing fruit and sugar, and it was scattered over him, but the people held back their hands. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with you that you do not grab?" The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you not forbid plundering? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I only forbade you the plundering of armies; as for weddings, no." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) also tried to gather (the sugar) along with them, and they along with him.
