Abu Idris al-Khawlani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I entered the mosque of Hims and saw some men narrating hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Among them was a young man with large dark eyes and gleaming front teeth; when he spoke, all the people listened silently to his words, and when they disagreed over something, they accepted his opinion on it. He turned out to be Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him). We sat with him, and I said: I love you. So he took hold of my knot (of garment) and pulled me towards him, until my knee touched his knee, then said: Shall I not give you glad tidings from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which he reports from Allah, the Mighty and Majestic? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My love is due to those who love one another for My sake, sit together, visit one another, and give to one another."
