Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to send Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen, he consulted some of his Companions, among them Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Uthman, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Talhah, Sayyiduna al-Zubayr and Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with them). He consulted all of them, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Had you not consulted us, we would not have spoken. He said: "In matters about which no revelation comes to me, I am like one of you." The narrator said: So the people spoke, each person giving his opinion. Then he said: "O Mu'adh! What is your opinion?" He said: My opinion is what Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, dislikes above His heaven that Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) should err."
