حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ثنا حَبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْوَرْدِ، عَنِ اللَّجْلَاجِ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الصَّبْرَ، فَقَالَ: «قَدْ سَأَلْتَ اللهَ الْبَلَاءَ، فَسَلِ اللهَ الْعَافِيَةَ» ، وَمَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ فَقَالَ: «قَدِ اسْتُجِيبَ لَكَ فَسَلْ» وَمَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ تَمَامَ النِّعْمَةِ، فَقَالَ: «ابْنَ آدَمَ، أَتَدْرِي مَا تَمَامُ النِّعْمَةِ؟» قَالَ: دَعْوَةٌ دَعَوْتُ بِهَا أَرْجُو بِهَا الْخَيْرَ، قَالَ: «تَمَامُ النِّعْمَةِ دُخُولُ الْجَنَّةِ، وَالنَّجَاةُ مِنَ النَّارِ»
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he passed by a man who was saying: O Allah, I ask You for patience. He said: "You have asked Allah for affliction; ask Allah for well-being." Then he passed by a man who was saying: O Possessor of Majesty and Honour! He said: "Your supplication has been answered, so now ask." Then he passed by a man who was saying: O Allah, I ask You for the completion of blessing. He said: "O son of Adam! Do you know what the completion of blessing is?" He said: It is a supplication I have made, through which I hope for good. He said: "The completion of blessing is entering Paradise and being saved from the Fire."
