It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was praying. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed his prayer, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you do something in the prayer which I had never seen before." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It was a prayer of raghbah and rahbah (hope and fear). In it I asked Allah Almighty for three things; He granted me two and withheld one from me. I asked Him not to give an enemy from other than them power over my Ummah so that it would uproot them, and He granted me that. And I asked Him not to send upon them a (general) famine that would destroy them, and He granted me that too. And I asked Him not to let them fight among themselves, and He withheld that (request) from me."
