It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him and Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen and ordered both of them to teach the people the Qur'an. (There) Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit him, and saw that there was a man with him bound in iron. He said: "My brother, were we sent to punish people, or to teach them and order them to do what benefits them?" Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "This man accepted Islam and then disbelieved." Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By the One who sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth, I will not leave until I burn him with fire." Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We still have some room (for his repentance) with him." Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah, I will never leave." (The narrator said:) So firewood was brought, a fire was kindled in it, and (Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him) threw him into it.
