Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 17190 — he passed by Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he passed by Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was standing at his door, gesturing with his hand as though talking to himself. Abdullah asked him: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what is the matter with you, that you are talking to yourself?" He said: "What is the matter with me? The enemy of Allah (Satan) wants to turn me away from what I heard from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He says to me: 'You are now spending your days in hardship in your house and you do not go out to the gatherings!' (I said to him:) I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever strives in jihad in the path of Allah is under the guarantee of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; whoever visits a sick person is under the guarantee of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; whoever goes to the mosque in the morning or the evening is under the guarantee of Allah; and whoever sits in his house and does not backbite anyone with evil is under the guarantee of Allah.' So the enemy of Allah wants to bring me out of my house to the gatherings."
