Sayyiduna Muslim bin al-Harith bin Badal al-Tamimi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us on a military detachment. When we launched our attack on the enemy, I went ahead of my companions on my horse, and the women and children came towards us crying out. I said to them: "Do you want to protect yourselves?" They said: "Yes." I said: "Say: 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah' (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah), and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger." So they said these words. Then my companions came and began to blame me, saying: "We were on the point of taking the spoils, but you prevented us." Then we returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not know what he has done? Allah has written for him, for every person, such-and-such a reward." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) drew me close to him and said: "When you have prayed the morning prayer, say seven times before you speak to anyone: 'O Allah, protect me from the Fire.' For if you die on that day, Allah will write for you protection from the Fire because of it. And when you have prayed the Maghrib prayer, say seven times before you speak to anyone: 'O Allah, protect me from the Fire.' For if you die that night, Allah will write for you protection from the Fire."
