حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ الرُّصَافِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيَّ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَرَأَيْتَ أُمُورًا كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ؟، كُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَفْسِهِ، فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ» ، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «فلَا تَأْتُوا الْكُهَّانَ»
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "What do you say about the things we used to do in the days of ignorance (Jahiliyyah)? We used to take evil omens." the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is something each one of you feels within himself, so let it not hold you back from anything." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, and we also used to go to soothsayers." the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then do not go to soothsayers."
