Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 16915 — I heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah say

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ رَبٍّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّمَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا بَلَاءٌ وَفِتْنَةٌ، وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُ أَحَدِكُمْ مِثْلُ الْوِعَاءِ إِذَا طَابَ أَعْلَاهُ طَابَ أَسْفَلُهُ»
Abu Abd Rabb narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) say on the pulpit: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Nothing remains of this world except trial and tribulation. The example of each one of you is like a vessel: when its top is pure, its bottom is pure too."
