حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زُغْبَةَ، قَالَا: ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ، أَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، وَفِي يَدِهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ شَعْرٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَيَقُولُ: «إِنَّمَا عُذِّبَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَتْ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ»
Imam Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Humayd bin Abdul Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him), who said: I heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), who had a lock of hair in his hand, saying: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid something like this, and I heard him say: 'The Children of Israel were punished only when their women adopted something like this.'"
