It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Nadlah al-Jushami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a shabby state, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have wealth?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What kind of wealth?" I said: Every kind: camels, horses, slaves and sheep, which Allah has given me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, gives you wealth, let it be seen upon you."
And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are the camels of your people born with sound ears, and then you take a blade and cut their ears and say: This is a bahirah; and you slit their skins and say: These are surum; and then you make them forbidden for yourself and your family?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then everything that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has given you is lawful for you. The arm of Allah is stronger than your arm, and the blade of Allah is sharper than your blade."
I said: O Messenger of Allah! What do you think: if I stayed with a man and he neither honoured me nor showed me hospitality, and then he comes to stay with me, should I repay him for what he did? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather show him hospitality."
