Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar said: Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' was the husband of the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and her maternal cousin. His mother, Halah bint Khuwaylid bin Asad bin Abd al-Uzza bin Qusayy, was the paternal half-sister of Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), and Halah's mother was Fatimah bint Za'idah, and Za'idah is al-Asamm bin Jundub bin Harim bin Rawahah bin Hajar bin Abd bin Ma'is bin Amir bin Lu'ayy. It is said that the name of Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' was Muhashshim, and he used to be called "Jirw al-Batha'" (the cub of al-Batha'). Al-Zubayr said: Muhammad bin al-Hasan and Yahya bin Muhammad told me that the name of Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' was Laqit. Al-Zubayr said: Muhammad bin al-Dahhak told me from his father that the name of Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' was al-Qasim, and that is what is established regarding his name. Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' passed away in Dhu al-Hijjah of the year 12 AH.
