حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ الْبَرْقِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ هِشَامٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَكَّائِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَخِي أَبِي رُهْمٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا رُهْمٍ كُلْثُومَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ، مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزْوَةَ تَبُوكٍ، فَسِرْتُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ مَعَهُ وَنَحْنُ بِالْأَخْضَرِ قَرِيبٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأُلْقِيَ عَلَيْنَا النُّعَاسُ وَجَعَلْتُ أَسْتَيْقِظُ وَقَدْ دَنَتْ رَاحِلَتِي مِنْ رَاحِلَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيُفْزِعُنِي دُنُوُّهَا مِنْهُ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ أُصِيبَ رِجْلَهُ فِي الْغَرْزِ، فَطَفِقْتُ أَحُوزُ رَاحِلَتِي عَنْهُ، حَتَّى غَلَبَتْنِي عَيْنِي فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ وَنَحْنُ فِي بَعْضِ اللَّيْلِ فَزَاحَمَتْ رَاحِلَتِي رَاحِلَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرِجْلَهُ فِي الْغَرْزِ، فَمَا اسْتَيْقَظْتُ إِلَّا بِقَوْلِهِ: «حَسِّ» ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي، فَقَالَ: «سِرْ» ، فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْأَلُنِي عَمَّنْ تَخَلَّفَ مِنْ بَنِي غِفَارٍ فَأُخْبِرُهُ بِهِ، فَقَالَ وَهُوَ يَسْأَلُنِي: «مَا فَعَلَ النَّفَرُ الْحُمُرُ الطِّوَالُ الثَّطَاطُ؟» ، فَحَدَّثْتُهُ بِتَخَلُّفِهِمْ، قَالَ: «فَمَا فَعَلَ السُّودُ الْجِعَادُ الْقِصَارُ؟» ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: وَاللهِ مَا أَعْرِفُ هَؤُلَاءِ مِنَّا، قَالَ: «بَلَى، الَّذِينَ لَهُمْ نِعَمٌ بِشَبَكَةٍ شُدُخٌ؟» ، فَتَذَكَّرْتُهُمْ فِي بَنِي غِفَارٍ وَلَمْ أَذْكُرْهُمْ، حَتَّى ذَكَرْتُ أَنَّهُمْ رَهْطٌ مِنْ أَسْلَمَ كَانُوا حُلَفَاءَ فِينَا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أُولَئِكَ رَهْطٌ مِنْ أَسْلَمَ كَانُوا حُلَفَاءَ فِينَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا مَنَعَ أَحَدَ أُولَئِكَ حِينَ تَخَلَّفَ أَنْ يَحْمِلَ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ مِنْ إِبِلِهِ امْرَأً نَشِيطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ؟ إِنَّ أَعَزَّ أَهْلِي عَلِيَّ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفَ عَنِّي الْمُهَاجِرُونَ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، وَالْأَنْصَارُ، وَغِفَارٌ، وَأَسْلَمُ»
Sayyiduna Abu Ruhm Kulthum bin Husayn al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who pledged allegiance beneath the tree, said: I took part with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the expedition of Tabuk. One night I was travelling with him (peace and blessings be upon him); we were at al-Akhdar and I was close to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Drowsiness overcame us. I kept starting awake and seeing that my mount had come close to the mount of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Its nearness to him (peace and blessings be upon him) alarmed me, for fear that it might strike his (peace and blessings be upon him) foot in the stirrup, so I would steer my mount away from him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, at some point on the road, during the night, sleep overcame me and my mount collided with the mount of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while his (peace and blessings be upon him) foot was in the stirrup. I only came to my senses when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Hiss!" (an exclamation of pain). So I said: O Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness for me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep going." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began asking me about those of Banu Ghifar who had stayed behind, and I kept informing him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What happened to the tall, red-complexioned people with sparse beards?" So I told him that they had stayed behind. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then what happened to the black, curly-haired, short people?" I said: By Allah, I do not recognise these people as being from among us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Of course you do, those whose livestock are at Shabakat Shadkh." So I tried to recall them among Banu Ghifar but could not, until I remembered that they were a group from Banu Aslam who were our allies. So I said: O Messenger of Allah, those are a group from Banu Aslam who were our allies. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What prevented any one of them, even while staying behind, from mounting some energetic man on one of his camels and sending him in the path of Allah? The hardest thing for me is that my own people, the Muhajirun of Quraysh, the Ansar, Ghifar and Aslam, should stay behind from me."
