Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 16317 — We said: O Messenger of Allah, this

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا زَائِدَةُ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَة، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ قَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ، فَكَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ؟، قَالَ: " قُولُوا: اللهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، اللهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ".
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We said: "O Messenger of Allah, this salutation (salam) upon you we have come to know how to send; so how shall we send blessings (durud) upon you?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: O Allah, send down Your mercy upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent down Your mercy upon Ibrahim; indeed, You are the Praised, the Glorious. O Allah, send down Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent down Your blessings upon Ibrahim; indeed, You are the Praised, the Glorious."
