Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 16210 — when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from pursuing the Confederates (al-Ahzab), he took off his armour, performed ghusl (ritual bath) and applied fragrance.
Duhaym added in his narration: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Jibril (peace be upon him) appeared before me and said: Who would accept your excuse regarding the enemy (muharib)! Do I not see that you have laid down your weapons, while we have not yet laid them down?" So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sprang up in alarm, and firmly ordered the people not to pray Asr except upon reaching (the territory of) Banu Qurayzah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) put on his weapons, and the people set out, but they did not reach Banu Qurayzah until the sun had set. The people disagreed about whether to pray Asr on the way or not. Some of them said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) firmly ordered us not to pray Asr until we reach Banu Qurayzah, and we are only carrying out the order of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so there is no sin upon us. So one group of them prayed Asr on the way, out of faith and seeking reward, and another group did not pray it until they reached Banu Qurayzah after sunset, and then prayed it out of faith and seeking reward. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reproach either of the two groups.
