Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 16190 — Amir bin Malik bin Ja'far, who was

It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) and others that Amir bin Malik bin Ja'far, who was called Mula'ib al-Asinnah, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was an idolater. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) presented Islam to him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not accept the gift of an idolater."
Amir bin Malik said: O Messenger of Allah! Send whomever you wish of your envoys; I will be their protector. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a group, among whom was Mundhir bin Amr al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him), about whom it was said: "He hastened towards death"; they had been sent as scouts among the people of Najd. Amir bin al-Tufayl heard of them, and he called on Banu Sulaym to rise against them; they set out with him and killed them all at Bi'r Ma'unah except Amr bin Umayyah al-Damri (may Allah be pleased with him). Amir bin al-Tufayl seized him and later released him. When he came back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as the only survivor among them (and among them was Amir bin Fuhayrah (may Allah be pleased with him); Urwah told me that he was killed that day, but when they searched for him to bury him, his body was not found. Urwah said: People believed that it was the angels who buried him), Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) composed these verses inciting against Amir bin al-Tufayl:
[In the Wafir metre]
"O sons of Umm al-Banin! Does it not shake you, while you are among the chiefs of the people of Najd, that Amir scorned the protection given by Abu Bara', so as to break his pledge? This was no mistake, but a deliberate act."
So Rabi'ah bin Amir bin Malik struck Amir bin al-Tufayl with a spear in his thigh, in return for his breaking the protection of Amir bin Malik, a blow that split it open.
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Yunus did not mention the link "from his father" in his narration.
