Abdullah bin Khirash narrates: I saw Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) at al-Rabadhah under a black canopy, and beneath it was a wife of his, a simple woman, while he himself was sitting on a piece of sackcloth. It was said to him: O Abu Dharr, your children do not survive (that is, they pass away). He said: "Praise be to Allah, who takes them from the abode of perishing and stores them up in the abode of permanence." The people said: O Abu Dharr, if only you would take a wife other than this one? He said: "To marry a woman who lowers me (in worldly standing) is more beloved to me than a woman who raises me." They said: If only you would take a bedding softer than this? He said: "O Allah, I seek forgiveness; take of what You have granted whatever seems fitting to You."
