Jarir bin Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: An old man wearing a woollen cloak came and sat with us in Ayyub's shop. He heard some people talking and said: "My master narrated to me (an incident) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." I said: "Tell us his name." He said: "Sayyiduna Qurrah bin Da'mus al-Numayri (may Allah be pleased with him)." He said: I came to Madinah and went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and there were people with him (peace and blessings be upon him). I wanted to get close to him (peace and blessings be upon him) but could not, so I called out to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Seek forgiveness for the Numayri boy." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah forgive you."
And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent al-Dahhak bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) to my people to collect the zakah. When he returned, he brought fat, well-fed camels. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You went to Hilal bin Amir, Numayr bin Amir and Amir bin Rabi'ah and took the best camels of their wealth?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I heard you mention military expeditions, so I wanted to bring you camels that you could ride and load with baggage." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those you left are dearer to me than those you took. Return them, and take their zakah from the ordinary, middling portion of their wealth." He said: Then I heard the Muslims calling those camels "al-Mujahidat" (the camels that wage jihad).
