Sayyiduna Qurrah bin Iyas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent, I set out to embrace Islam, and I wanted to bring two or three men into Islam along with me. So I came to the water (watering place) where the people used to gather, and there was the village shepherd who used to graze their goats. He said: "I will not graze your goats for you." They asked: "Why?" He said: "Every night the wolf comes and carries off a goat, while this idol of ours stands there, neither harming nor benefiting, neither changing (anything) nor objecting (to anything)." So they went back, and I hoped that they would embrace Islam. When morning came, the shepherd came running, saying: "Good news has come! Good news has come! The wolf came, and it is lying tied up in front of the idol." So I went with them, and they kissed it and prostrated to it, and said: "(O idol!) Keep doing like this." Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him (peace and blessings be upon him) of this incident, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Satan has played games with them."
