Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 15986 — I went to al-Hirah and saw them

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الْأَزْرَقُ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ الْحِيرَةَ فَرَأَيْتُهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ لِمَرْزُبَانَ لَهُمْ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ أَنْ نَسْجُدَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: «لَا تَفْعَلُوا، وَلَوْ أَمَرْتُ بِذَلِكَ لَأَمَرْتُ النِّسَاءَ أَنْ يَسْجُدْنَ لِأَزْوَاجِهِنَّ، لِمَا جَعَلَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ حَقِّهِمْ»
Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I went to al-Hirah and saw them prostrating to their marzuban (governor). So I said: O Messenger of Allah, you have more right that we should prostrate to you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do so. If I were to order anyone to do that, I would order women to prostrate to their husbands, because of the rights of their husbands that Allah has placed upon them (which are very great)."
