Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house of Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), stood at the door and gave the greeting of peace, and Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) answered in a low voice. He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the greeting again, and Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) again answered in a low voice. He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the greeting again, and Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) again answered in a low voice, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned back. Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) ran after him and said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! By Allah, nothing kept me from answering your greeting (aloud) except that you might give us more of your greetings. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went inside. Water was put out for him to cool himself, and he took a ritual bath (ghusl); then a wrap dyed with wars was brought, which he put on, and I saw the trace of the wars on the folds of his belly. Then he came and sat down and said: "O Allah, send down Your mercy upon the Ansar, upon the offspring of the Ansar, and upon the offspring of the offspring of the Ansar." Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to leave, a donkey was brought, over which a cloth was laid that was neither of silk nor of wool, and Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) sent his son with him to bring the donkey back. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seat him in front of me." Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, should I seat him in front of you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, he has more right to the front of his own donkey." He said: O Messenger of Allah, the donkey is yours. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then seat him behind me."
