Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 1596 — I disliked Quraysh's harming

Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I disliked Quraysh's harming of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so when I came to think that they would kill him (peace and blessings be upon him), I left, until I reached a monastery. The people of the monastery went to their head and informed him, and he said: Give him his due, as befits him, for three days. When three days had passed and they saw that he was not leaving, they went to their head and informed him, and he said: Tell him: We have given you your due, as befitted you. If you are someone's executor, your executorship (period) has passed; if you are one who maintains ties of kinship, the time has come for you to go to your relatives; and if you are a merchant, the time has come for you to go out to your trade. I said: I am neither one who maintains ties of kinship, nor a merchant, nor do I have a share in anything. They went to him and informed him, and he said: He certainly has some matter; ask him what his matter is. He said: So they came to me and asked me, and I said: No, by Allah, except that I am from the town of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and my cousin, who claims that he is a Prophet, has been harmed by his people, and I feared that they would kill him, so I came out so as not to witness that. He said: They went to their head and told him what I had said, and he said: Bring him. So I came to him and told him my whole story. He said: Do you fear that they will kill him? I said: Yes. He said: If you saw him in a picture, would you recognise his likeness? I said: Yes, I met him only recently. So he showed me covered pictures; he would uncover one picture after another and say: Do you recognise (him)? And I would say: No, until he uncovered a covered picture, and I said: I have never seen anything more like him than this picture; it is as if it were his height and his body, and the distance between his two shoulders too. He said: So do you fear that they will kill him? I said: I think they will have finished with the matter. He said: By Allah, they will not kill him; rather, whoever intends to kill him will himself be killed. He is indeed a Prophet, and Allah will surely make him prevail. But his right has become binding upon us, so stay as long as you like and ask for whatever you wish. He said: I stayed with them for some time, then I said: Why should I not do as they say? So I came to Makkah and found that they had driven the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) out to Madinah. When I arrived, Quraysh rose up against me and said: Your affair has become clear to us and we know your state, so bring the wealth of the children that is with you, which your father left with you in trust. I said: I will never do this, even if you separate my head from my body; but let me go so that I may go and hand this wealth over to them. They said: Upon you is the covenant and pledge of Allah that you will not eat of his food. He said: I reached Madinah, and the news had already reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I went in to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and among what he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me was: "I see that you are hungry; bring food." I said: I will not eat until I tell you; if you see fit that I eat, I will eat. He said: I told him (peace and blessings be upon him) what they had taken from me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then fulfil the covenant of Allah, and do not eat of our food, nor drink of our drink."
