Qays bin Zuhayr narrates: We went with Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin al-Rabi' (may Allah be pleased with him) to the mosque of Sayyiduna Furat bin Hayyan (may Allah be pleased with him), and the time for prayer came. (Sayyiduna Furat) said to him: Go forward. He said: I will not go ahead of you when you are older than me in age, earlier than me in emigration, and the mosque is your mosque. Sayyiduna Furat (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say something about you, (so) I will never go ahead of you. He said: Were you present on the day I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) at Ta'if and he sent me as a scout? He said: Yes. So Sayyiduna Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) went forward and led them in prayer. Then Sayyiduna Furat (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Banu Ijlan, I only put him forward because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him as a scout to Ta'if; he came and gave him the news, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have spoken the truth. Return to your home, for you have attained (the reward of being present) tonight." When he turned away, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Follow this man and those like him."
