Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that on the Day of Sacrifice the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) seated Sayyiduna al-Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him on the rear of his mount, and al-Fadl was a handsome man. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped for the people to give them rulings, and a beautiful woman from the tribe of Khath'am came to ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a ruling. Al-Fadl began looking at her, and her beauty pleased him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned and saw al-Fadl looking at her, so he reached his hand back, took hold of al-Fadl's chin and turned his face away from looking at her. Then that Khath'ami woman said: "O Messenger of Allah! The obligation of Allah regarding Hajj has reached my father while he is a very old man; he cannot sit upright on a mount. Would my performing Hajj on his behalf suffice?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf."
