Habib bin Abi Fadalah al-Makki (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When this mosque, that is, the Jami' Mosque, was built, Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting (there). The people mentioned intercession (shafa'ah) in his presence, and a man said: O Abu Nujayd, you narrate to us hadiths for which we find no basis in the Qur'an. At that, Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry and said to the man: Have you read the Qur'an? He said: Yes. He said: Did you find in it that the Maghrib prayer is three rak'ahs, the Isha prayer four rak'ahs, the Fajr prayer two rak'ahs, the Zuhr prayer four rak'ahs, and the Asr prayer four rak'ahs? He said: No. He said: Then from whom did you take this matter? Did you not take it from us, and we took it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Did you find that in every forty dirhams there is one dirham, and in so many sheep there is one sheep, and in so many camels there is such-and-such a camel? Did you find this in the Qur'an? He said: No. He said: Then from whom did you take this? We took it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you took it from us. He said: Did you find in the Qur'an: "And let them circumambulate the Ancient House" [Al-Hajj: 29]? Did you find in it: make seven circuits, and pray two rak'ahs behind the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam Ibrahim)? Did you find this in the Qur'an? From whom did you take it? Did you not take it from us, and we took it from the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Did you find in the Qur'an that in Islam there is no jalab, no janab and no shighar? He said: No. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "In Islam there is no jalab, no janab and no shighar." Have you heard Allah say in His Book about certain people: "What put you into Saqar (Hell)? They will say: We were not of those who prayed, nor did we feed the poor" [Al-Muddaththir: 43], up to: "So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them" [Al-Muddaththir: 48]? Habib said: "I heard him say 'the intercession'."
