Atiyyah bin Busr al-Mazini said: Ikkaf bin Wada'ah al-Hilali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Ikkaf, do you have a wife?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Nor a slave-girl?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And you are healthy and well-off?" He said: Yes, all praise is for Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you are one of the brothers of the devils. Either you are one of the monks of the Christians, in which case you are counted among them, or you are one of us, in which case do as we do, for marriage is part of our Sunnah. The worst of you are your unmarried ones, and the lowliest of your dead are those who die unmarried. Will you just stand like this before Satan? He has no weapon more effective than this against righteous men and women, except that married people are the purified ones, free of indecency. Woe to you, O Ikkaf! These women are the companions of Dawud, the companions of Yusuf, and the companions of Kursuf." Atiyyah said: I asked: Who was Kursuf, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man among the Children of Israel who lived on the seashore. He fasted by day and stood in prayer by night, never tiring of fasting or prayer. Then, after that, he disbelieved in Allah the Magnificent, having fallen in love with a woman, and he abandoned the worship of his Lord. Then Allah rescued him by virtue of his former state and accepted his repentance. Woe to you, O Ikkaf! Get married, for you are among the sinners." Ikkaf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I will not move from here until you marry me to whomever you wish. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have married you, in the name of Allah and with His blessing, to Karimah bint Kulthum al-Himyari."
