Muhammad bin Ibrahim, the grandson of Sayyiduna Anamah al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates from his father, from his grandfather: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out and a man of the Ansar met him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, what I see on your face grieves me; what is it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at the man's face for a while, then said: "Hunger." So the man went out running, or nearly running, until he reached his house. He searched for food there but found nothing. Then he went out to the Banu Qurayzah and hired himself out for one date for every bucket he drew, until he had gathered a handful or a palmful of dates. Then he came back with the dates and found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the same gathering, from which he had not moved. He placed them before him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Eat, O Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where did you get these dates?" He told him (peace and blessings be upon him) the whole story, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I think you love Allah and His Messenger?" He said: Yes, by the One who sent you with the truth, you are dearer to me than my own self, my children, my family and my wealth. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then prepare yourself to be patient with poverty, and make ready ample provision for trials. By the One who sent me with the truth, these two reach the one who loves me faster than water flows down from the top of a mountain to its foot."
