حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ الْأَيْذَجِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْزُوقٍ، ثنا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ تَوْبَةَ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ عَرْسِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دَارِمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَوْفِ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ قَالَ: وَفْدَ أَبِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ غُلَيِّمٌ، فَأَمَرَ لِكُلِّ رَجُلٍ بِبُرْدَيْنِ وَأَمَرَ لِي بِبُرْدٍ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفْنَا بَاعَ عَلَيَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدَ بُرْدَيْهِ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بُرْدَيْنِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ وَقَالَ: «مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكَ هَذَا؟» قُلْتُ: اشْتَرَيْتُهَا مِنْ فُلَانٍ، قَالَ: «أَنْتَ كُنْتَ أَحَقَّ مِنْهُ إِذْ ضَيَّعَ مَا أَعْطَاهُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ»
Sayyiduna Awf bin al-Qa'qa' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My father came as a delegate to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I was a small boy with him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered two cloaks for each man and ordered one cloak for me. When we left, one of the men sold me one of his two cloaks. So I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in two cloaks. He (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at me and said: "Where did you get these?" I said: I bought it from so-and-so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You were more entitled to it than him, since he wasted what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had given him."
