Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led a funeral prayer, and I memorised these words from his (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication; he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: "O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, pardon him, make his hospitality honourable, make wide the place he enters, wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt; and give him in exchange a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a wife better than his wife; and admit him into Paradise, and grant him refuge from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire." So much so that I wished that I were that deceased person.
