Khalid bin Zayd said: I was an archer, and Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pass by me and say: O Khalid! Come out with us to shoot. One day I was slow in going to him, so he said: O Khalid! Come, I will tell you what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told me. So I came to him and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, admits three people into Paradise: the one who makes it while intending good in making it, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands him the arrows. And practise archery and ride, and that you practise archery is more beloved to me than that you ride. Of amusement there are only three things: a man's training of his horse, his playing with his wife, and his shooting with his bow. And whoever abandons archery after learning it, out of lack of interest in it, then it is a blessing for which he has been ungrateful, or which he has abandoned."
