(Ibn Shihab said:) They were sitting on chairs in the gathering of Umar bin Abd al-Aziz, and Urwah bin al-Zubayr was with them. The mu'adhdhin called him for the Asr prayer, and he delayed before praying it. When they came back, Urwah bin al-Zubayr said: Do you know that Jibril (peace be upon him) came down to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), prayed with him (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him (peace and blessings be upon him) the time of prayer? At this Umar bin Abd al-Aziz asked: What are you saying, O Abdullah? Urwah then said: Bashir bin Abi Mas'ud al-Ansari told me from Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Jibril (peace be upon him) came down to me, so I prayed with him, then I prayed with him, then I prayed with him, then I prayed with him, then I prayed with him." (Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pray Zuhr when the sun had declined, and sometimes he delayed it in intense heat; and he prayed Asr while the sun was white and high, so that a man could walk to Dhu al-Hulayfah, a distance of six miles, before sunset; and he prayed Maghrib as soon as the sun had set; and he prayed Isha when the horizon had become dark; and he prayed Fajr in the darkness. Then one day he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed it when the light had spread, and after that he never again delayed it until the light had spread, until Allah took him (peace and blessings be upon him) in death.
These are the words of Abu Salih's narration.
