حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ، أَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَثَابِتِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، وَجَوَارٍ يَضْرِبْنَ بِدُفٍّ لَهُنَّ وَتُغَنِّينَ، فَقُلْتُ: أَتُقِرُّونَ بِذَا وَأَنْتُمْ أَصْحَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: «إِنَّهُ قَدْ رُخِّصَ لَنَا فِي الْعُرْسِ، وَالْبُكَاءِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ فِي غَيْرِ نَوْحٍ»
Amir bin Sa'd al-Bajali (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I went in to Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud, Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b and Sayyiduna Thabit bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them), and there were some girls beating a daff and singing. I said: "Do you permit this when you are the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?" They said: "We have been given permission (for singing) at weddings, and for weeping over the dead without wailing."
