حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدُوسِ بْنِ كَامِلٍ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ، ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ يَسِيرَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو، أنَّ أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، لَمَّا قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ احْتَجَبَ فِي بَيْتِهِ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَمْرِ النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ: «عَلَيْكَ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ، فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يَجْمَعْ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَى ضَلَالَةٍ، وَاصْبِرْ حَتَّى يَسْتَرِيحَ بَرٌّ أَوْ يُسْتَرَاحَ مِنْ فَاجِرٍ»
Yusayr bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) secluded himself in his house. I went to him and asked him about the affairs of the people, and he said: "You must stay with the community, for Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has not gathered the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) upon misguidance; and be patient until a righteous man finds rest, or rest is found from a wicked man."
