حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْبَرْبَهَارِيُّ، ثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ، ثَنَا مَرْوانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ، عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ: أَتَى الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِعَبْدٍ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ فَقَالَ: «مَا عَمِلْتَ؟» فَيَقُولُ: مَا عَمِلْتُ شَيْئًا أَرْجُوكَ بِهِ كَثِيرًا مِنْ صَلَاةٍ وَصَوْمٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّكَ كُنْتَ أَتَيْتَنِي فَضْلًا مِنْ مَالٍ، فَكُنْتُ أُخَالِطُ النَّاسَ، وَأُيَسِّرُ عَلَى الْمُوسِرَ، وَأُنْظِرُ الْمُعْسِرَ، فَقَالَ: «نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِذَلِكَ، فَتَجَاوَزُوا عَنْ عَبْدِي» فَغَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will bring one of His servants before Him and say: "What did you do?" He will say: "I did not do much prayer or fasting by which I could place my hope in You, except that You had given me an abundance of wealth, so I used to deal with people; I was lenient with the well-off and gave respite to the one in hardship." Allah will say: "We are more deserving of that, so pardon My servant." So Allah forgave him.
