Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 14550 — A man from the desert came

Sayyiduna Ismah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man from the desert came with his camels, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met him and bought the camels from him. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) met him and asked: What has brought you here? He said: I came with camels, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bought them. He asked: Did he (peace and blessings be upon him) pay you the price in cash? He said: No, rather I sold them to him (peace and blessings be upon him) on deferred payment. So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go back and say to him (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! If something happens to you, who will pay me my wealth? And see what answer he (peace and blessings be upon him) gives you, then come back and tell me. So he said: O Messenger of Allah! If something happens to you, who will pay my debt? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Bakr." He told Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: Go back and ask: if something happens to Abu Bakr, who will pay my debt? He asked, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Umar." He came and told Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: Go back and ask: after Umar dies, who will pay my debt? He went and asked, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you! When Umar dies, then if you are able to die, die."
