Awn bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrated through his father: When Utbah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) died, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) wept. It was said to him: Do you weep? He said: "He was my brother and my companion with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the most beloved of people to me, except for what there was of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)."
