حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْدَهْ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْأَسَدِيُّ، ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْخَلِيلِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ الشِّخِّيرِ قَالَ: قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ غَزْوَانَ السُّلَمِيُّ فَخَطَبَنَا وَهُوَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا قَدْ آذَنَتْ بِصَرْمٍ وَوَلَّتْ حَذَّاءَ فَلَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهَا إِلَّا صُبَابَةٌ كَصُبَابَةِ الْإِنَاءِ صَبَّهَا صَاحِبُهَا إِلَّا وَإنَّكُمْ مُنْتَقِلُونَ فَانْتَقِلُوا بِخَيْرِ مَا بِحَضْرَتِكُمْ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي سَابِعَ سَبْعَةٍ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ قَرِحَتْ أَفْوَاهُنَا مِنْ أَكْلِ الْأَشْجَارِ»
Ibn al-Shikhkhir narrated: Utbah bin Ghazwan al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and addressed us in Basrah, saying: "Indeed, this world has announced its end and has swiftly turned its back, and nothing remains of it except the like of the dregs of a vessel which its owner pours out. And you are surely about to move on, so move with the best of what you have with you. And I saw myself as the seventh of seven with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and our mouths had become sore from eating the leaves of trees."
