حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ، يَقُولُ " حِينَ بُويِعَ لِعُثْمَانَ: مَا أَلَوْنَا عَنْ أَعْلَاهَا ذَا فَوْقٍ "
Hakim bin Jabir said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) say, when the pledge of allegiance was given to Uthman: "We have spared no effort in choosing the highest and best person for this matter."
