Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: Quraysh wailed over their slain, then regretted it and said: "Do not wail over them, lest this reach Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions and they rejoice at your misfortune." Among the captives was Abu Wada'ah bin Sabirah al-Sahmi, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has a son in Makkah who is a shrewd and wealthy merchant; it is as though I see him having come to you to ransom his father." When Quraysh said what they said about the ransom, al-Muttalib said: "You have spoken the truth. By Allah, if you do that, he will surely take revenge on you." Then he slipped away quietly by night, reached Madinah, and ransomed his father for four thousand dirhams.
